The Chez is a blog started by three University of Scranton students and its goal is to provide information about anything. The Chez.net authors review everything from music to video games to movies. They comment on current events, talk some philosophy and address ethical concerns, all while being open for debate in the comments section.
The Rating System
In a review, each work is assigned a number of Chezwicks. It can range from zero to five Chezwicks, but this rating system is a little different. Chezwicks are not desired. So, 5 Chezwicks is total shit, while zero Chezwicks is perfect. Instead of rating how good something is, it is reversed. We rate how shitty stuff is. So, if you have an item with 4/5 Chezwicks, that means it is pretty shitty, and only 1/5 of the work is even worthwhile. The other 4/5 is total shit.
Here is the formula to convert it to a rating system that has 0 as the worst and 10 as the best:
2 x (5 – # Chezwicks) e.g. If a review was scored 1.5 Chezwicks, do the following conversion: 2 x (5 – 1.5 Chezwicks) = 2 x (3.5) = 7 = 7 out of 10
The Types and Equivalences of Chezwicks
- The No-Chez. Equal to 0/5 or 0/10 in Chezwicks. Equal to 5/5 or 10/10 in a traditional rating system.
- The Quarter-Chez. Equal to 0.25/5 or 0.5/10 in Chezwicks. Equal to 4.75/5 or 9.5/10 in a traditional rating system.
- The Half-Chez. Equal to 0.5/5 or 1/10 in Chezwicks. Equal to 4.5/5 or 9/10 in a traditional rating system.
- The Three-Fourths-Chez. Equal to 0.75/5 or 1.5/10 in Chezwicks. Equal to 4.25/5 or 8.5/10 in a traditional rating system.
– The Chez. Equal to 1/5 or 2/10 in Chezwicks. Equal to 4/5 or 8/10 in a traditional rating system.
Keep in mind that these can be added together. E.g. ![]()
= 1.75/5 or 3.5/10 in Chezwicks or 3.25/5 or 6.5/10 in traditional scale.
The Chezwick Legend
The Chezwick got its origins from the University of Scranton’s cross country team. A short, plump, orange, traffic cone was awarded to a team member that did something stupid. Once another team member did something stupid, it was passed to them from the previous recipient. The short, plump, orange, traffic cone signifies the Chezwick in all its glory. So, in honor of the Chezwick it became the logo of The Chez.

Hello,
I’m interested in placing a promotional link on your page:
http://thechez.net/2009/12/15/ninjatown-review/
The link would be for a website which offers nintendo ds lite.I don’t have the biggest budget, but hopefully there is a reasonable price we could arrange. Please let me know if you’re interested, and if not thanks for your time.
Thanks!
